SIMPLE PLEASURES

A STILL-LIFE COLLECTION OF ORIGINAL ARTWORKS INSPIRED BY THE COMFORT OF HOME

WELCOME TO MY LATEST COLLECTION

AN INVITATION TO ENJOY THE SIMPLE PLEASURES OF LIFE

It can be as easy as a walk in the park, a warm cup of tea, or something nice to knit. Beauty, I do believe, is found everywhere around us. And happiness comes from learning to enjoy what we have.

This collection is a reminder to appreciate the simple things we have, and the comfort of a home.

Table with view

This painting was the first of this series.

It is represent the transition of the seasons. Winter is over, the snow has melted and a new life comes out of the window.

The viewer is sitting comfortably in the comfort and safety of its home, looking out of the window at the world beyond.

On the table simple pleasures, coffee, flowers and the last mandarines of the season.

Cafรฉ et Mandarines

This painting was the second of my series.

It came to live from a sketch in my sketchbook of an autumnal table fo dried flowers. It reminds me of how I wish some of my morning journaling sessions would be. The birds singing in the trees, a cup of coffee, the smell of fresh mandarines , and a notebook to write for hours.

Lizโ€™s Table

This is probably one of my favorite painting from the collection.

It is inspired by the photograph of Lizโ€™s Table. Liz is a knitter with a lovely podcast that promotes small living, cosy knits and mindfulness. Every time I look at it, I feel a sense of joy and calm. Just like her table.

Full of simple but delicious things that bring comfort to oneโ€™s life. Those little lemons next to the vase, are like a little ray of sunshine and positivity.

Les Deux Poires

This painting was an exercise for me to go back to basics.

Focus on simple things that make a painting great. Good lighting, good textures, taking time to bring values. All small but simple steps, that are so important to make those two little pears shine like jewels.

Paigeโ€™s Table

Paigeโ€™s Table is the sister painting to Lizโ€™s Table.

Paige and Liz have a podcast together, and spend a lot of time talking about their love for slow living, knitting and sewing.

So it was clear to me as I painted Lizโ€™s Table, that Paigeโ€™s would follow. I loved this photograph of hers, because there is nothing that makes me feel more cosy at home than knitting on some lovely knits.

Fraises et

Porcelaines

This painting is my dream of my perfect cottage table scene, or at least a snippet of it.

I love the comfort of cottages, the old porcelaines and ceramics. Lovely fresh and juicy fruits picked up from the garden. All these things remind me of my grand parents cottage, and all the lovely summer days I used to spend there as a kid. In a way this painting is like this childhood memory on a canvas.

A Table of Peaches

A table of peaches is the last of the series.

It represent fresh peaches picked out of the garden. The sunlight shining lightly on them . The joy and anticipation of baking with it, or simply enjoying it as itself.

Life is better than death, I believe, if only because it is less boring, and because it has fresh peaches in it. - Alice Walker

I hope you will enjoy this collection as much as I did painting it.

I leave you now with a bit of poetry about simple pleasures, and more visual inspiration from the collection.

The Orange

At lunchtime I bought a huge orangeโ€”
The size of it made us all laugh.
I peeled it and shared it with Robert and Daveโ€”
They got quarters and I had a half.

And that orange, it made me so happy,
As ordinary things often do
Just lately. The shopping. A walk in the park.
This is peace and contentment. Itโ€™s new.

The rest of the day was quite easy.
I did all the jobs on my list
And enjoyed them and had some time over.
I love you. Iโ€™m glad I exist.
